Pocket Properties: How We Got Started

Emily likes to credit how she and Ryan met to a term she coined: Dating for Dogs.

Ryan and Emily met in New York City. Emily was searching for a dog to date (#datingfordogs). Bailey's cute face attracted her from day one and the rest was history, except that Ryan made her hang out with him for 3 dates before introducing the Bailey. Turns out Ryan and Emily had a lot in common though, so she decided to not steal his dog away but keep them both. ​

​One of the main things they both agreed on was their desire to leave NYC and move closer to family. They both grew up in small hometowns and wanted that community and atmosphere for their future. After very little debate, they now live in Boise where they spend their days snow skiing, water skiing (wakeboarding if you are Ryan), enjoying the outdoors with Bailey and of course working on their properties. Everyday Boise becomes more of their forever home and they can’t wait to help that dream come true for other people/families in the Treasure Valley. 

Even though the plan was to rent a home for at least a year, Ryan and Emily couldn’t resist the intrigues of Zillow and the many open houses in their area. Before they knew it, they were making offers on properties in Boise within just 4 months of first arriving in the Treasure Valley. At first they’d planned to do another live-in flip, similar to how Ryan got started with his East Coast Colonial, and fix up a forgotten home to later sell or rent to an interested family. Despite this plan, they kept looking at homes on some acreage and before they knew it they couldn’t resist having a little space for Bailey to run and the potential for other barnyard animals. This led them to find The Boise Treehouse on an acre of land, which luck would have it they’d later use to host their wedding right in the backyard.​

After completing a full renovation on The Boise Treehouse interior and exterior, Ryan and Emily decided that this hobby deserved to become their future. Ryan officially moved away from his day-job and obtained his contractor’s license so that they could begin launching their dream of “bringing beauty back to forgotten homes”.
